The Age of 5G is Coming

Recent years, the fifth-generation mobile communication technology (5G) has attracted much attention in the field of global information communication.

At present, 5G is at the critical stage of technical standard determination and product development. Countries all over the world regard 5G as the priority development field in the economic and social digital strategy, and actively participating in the R&D and testing of 5G, steadily promoting the 5G development process. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) headquarters engineer Zhang Feng said, the first standard version of 5G will be completed by 2018; Chinese top three carriers also denote they would take the first step in 5G commercial trials in 2018, and strive to achieve 5G scale commercial by 2020.

China is experiencing an intelligent Era with high speed development. The rapid spread of applications in artificial intelligence, industrial Internet, and AR/VR, as well as the strong reliance on information, making the new generation network technology become the inevitable product of social development. Based on brand-new network architecture, 5G provides a network rate of a hundred times faster than 4G, a transmission delay of one millisecond and a device connection capability of a hundred billion, opening a new era of wide and deep interconnection of all things.

Typical application scenarios of 5G

Compared with 4G, 5G network has three main features: extremely high speed, maximum capacity and extremely low delay, which are respectively represented by three application scenarios: enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB), massive Machine Type Communication (mMTC), and ultra-Reliable Low Latency Communications (uRLLC).

The Internet of Things (IOT), the Internet of Vehicles (IOV), AR/VR, and telemedicine are considered to be typical examples of the three application scenarios of 5G. Through the latest network technology, they can not only satisfy the ultimate communication experience among human beings, but also focus on the efficient information exchange and communication between objects and objects, objects and surrounding environment. Automatic drive, unmanned drive, and smart city planning. For instance, all rely on the huge bandwidth and low latency of millisecond level of 5G network, realizing seamless connection and interaction among vehicle, signal lamp, road induction coil and intelligent control platform.

5G is not only a new generation of mobile communication technology with a peak speed of 10 GB per second, but also an infrastructure for the era of all things connected. Based on ultra-low latency and capability of a hundred billion devices connection, 5G technology deeply integrates the traditional communication industry to all walks of life. It is widely used in long-range control, artificial intelligence, automatic driving, industry informatization, unmanned aerial vehicles, and other fields.

The contribution of 5G to economic and social development

With the mature of 5G technology and the expansion of the range of application in the future, all walks of life will innovate and develop faster than ever, and this will open up trillions of market space. It is predicted that the direct and indirect economic output generated by 5G will reach ¥6.3 trillion and ¥10.6 trillion from 2020 to 2030; the creation of direct economic added value will exceed ¥2.9 trillion; the indirect increasing in GDP will reach ¥3.6 trillion.

The widespread use of 5G creates a large number of employment opportunities while promoting the efficiency of enterprise output. According to relevant data, 5G will create more than 8 million jobs in 2030, mainly including telecommunications and Internet service related jobs.
